Understanding E-Bike Safety Standards: What UL and CE Certifications Mean for You

As electric bikes continue to surge in popularity worldwide, rider safety is more crucial than ever. Certifications like UL and CE aren’t just badges—they’re proof of quality, reliability, and peace of mind.

At TENWAYS, we’re proud to offer bikes that go the extra mile—not just in performance, but in safety too. Whether you’re commuting through the city or cruising scenic routes, our bikes are tested, certified, and ready for the road.

What is UL Certification?

UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is a globally recognized safety certification body based in the U.S. For e-bikes, the key certification is UL 2849, which ensures the safety of the entire electrical system—covering the battery, motor, and charger. An e-bike with UL 2849 certification has been thoroughly tested to reduce risks of fire, electric shock, and mechanical failure.

In addition, UL 2271 focuses specifically on lithium-ion battery packs used in e-bikes. This standard evaluates electrical and thermal safety, mechanical durability, and built-in protections to guard against potential hazards.

Benefits of UL 2849 & UL 2271:

     1. Assures high standards for battery and electrical safety

     2. Reduces risk of fire and electric shock

     3. Enhances consumer confidence, especially in the U.S. market

All TENWAYS CGO Series, including the CGO600 Pro, CGO600 Pro-C, and CGO800S, are UL 2849 Certified and UL 2271 Recognized, offering top-tier protection in lightweight urban designs.

What is CE Certification?

The CE mark (Conformité Européenne) is a mandatory requirement for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). For e-bikes, the most relevant standard is EN 15194, which covers strict criteria for electrical, mechanical, and functional safety—ensuring the bike is safe, roadworthy, and legally compliant across Europe.

Unlike voluntary standards like UL in the U.S., CE and EN 15194 compliance is legally required in Europe, making it one of the most comprehensive and enforced certifications in the global e-bike market.

Benefits of CE & EN 15194:

     1. Mandatory for legal sale and use across the EU

     2. Covers electrical and mechanical safety, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), and performance

     3. Indicates rigorous third-party testing and product reliability

At TENWAYS, our AGO Series—including AGO X and AGO T—fully comply with CE and EN 15194 standards, offering riders peace of mind with thoroughly tested, dependable performance for urban and off-road adventures alike.
